Tucson homeowners file bad faith insurance lawsuits

Homeowners who lost homes due to a June 2003 wildfire on Mount Lemmon - northeast of Tucson, Ariz. - have filed lawsuits against 16 separate insurers alleging breach of contract, insurance bad faith and negligence.

There are about 70 homeowners' families who have filed lawsuits. The wildfire charred nearly 85-thousand acres and destroyed 322 homes in the town of Summerhaven - about a 45-minute drive from Tucson. The fire also burned seven businesses and four other structures.

Another 27 families have reached settlements with a few other insurance carriers.
